The oft reported lore is that illegal immigrants are encouraged to come into the United States by big business in order to provide relatively cheap labor.

There is a new trend, however, that seems to take the shine off that story.

Seems.

With transportation costs still crippling the manufacturing capacity of big business, there is renewed interest in Mexico vis a vis the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Problem is wages in Mexico have matured over the years due to the influx of manufacturing concerns resulting in higher wages locally in Mexico.

That was when the big push was to relocate to China because the total cost per unit of production in China including transportation was still lower than in Mexcio - not to mention drastically lower than in the United States.

It is rather more complex than that, but it is effectively why China began booming.

With the crimp in the economy globally, the cost of production in China is now unsustainable.

Where to go?

Indonesia?  No, they have matured somewhat too (Matured comparable to their original cost of production, not in comparison with the western world).

Well, what if through tighter enforcement of Immigration policies combined with weaker working conditions in the United States forced significant numbers of illegal immigrants - whose current combined effect has depressed wages in the United States FLOODED back into Mexico?

It could conceivably depress wages in Mexico to the point where the per unit cost of production including wages and transportation was effectively lower than the per unit cost of production in China and big business would be back to making money again.

With better delivery times to boot.  And in this time of eliminating inventory costs in favor of dock to store efficient delivery with bare bones inventory sitting in a warehouse that is a major attractive element to push over the top for big business to want to depress wages in Mexico with its complementary reduction in transportation and energy costs.

So when you blame George W. Bush for being racist, you might want to remember that capitalism is stronger than racism.  Racial identity never comes into play with capitalism.  If Canada could be manipulated for the same end goal, it would be.  Unfortunately for Mexico, Canada has a hundred years of maturity in its economy.

Maybe Mexican nationals should think about pushing for a government that is less concerned about their own bank accounts.

Closed political structures just cannot adjust as quickly to the buffeting winds of economic change.

Oh, and Hillary Clinton is still a cunt.
